VEHICLE ROADWORTHY

What “Roadworthy” Means

A roadworthy certificate (RWC) proves that a vehicle is safe and fit to be driven on public roads. It checks the safety and mechanical condition, not the overall reliability or cosmetic condition.

You usually need a Roadworthy Certificate when:

  • You buy or sell a used vehicle.
  • You register a vehicle in your name.
  • You relicense a vehicle that has been deregistered or written off.
  • You import a vehicle into South Africa

HotHorse only uses Decra Vehicle Testing Stations for the processing of RWC certificates

The Hothorse service will include a pre-inspection of the vehicle prior to the formal RWC testing being conducted, the collection and drop off within 50km(round-trim) at R250, a flat fee of R750 for the facilitation of the vehicle testing process. This excludes the actual Decra testing fee that ranges and dependent of the vehicle, for normal sedans or hatchbacks the cost is on average around R750.

Please note that any repairs or faults that are identified through the RWC testing process will be for the owners account to resolve. Hothorse can assist in quotes and repair work estimates but this would be an additional cost to consider.
